CHRISTINE OHLMAN: The Hard Way CD
#3011 Deluge Rec. P.O. Box 2877, Waterville, Maine 04903
Ohlman is about to rearrange your furniture. This is a full tilt, rockin' blues debut from the Saturday Night Live Band singer and with fine musical help from that band's leader, G.E. Smith. With an outstanding backup band, solid original tunes and an aggressive musical style, Ohlman may earn her place—Ethridge, Mellencamp, the Boss and even Dylan, the influences are remarkable. Ohlman can more than hold her own and I like her chances at breaking out. She is a gutsy, bluesy singer with a wide range of emotions and presence. Fave cuts: "Sugar Melts" and "One Night Called Love." Very good recording, strong backing music and plenty of power in her punch, Ohlman really lays it out. Better listen with a friend!
